Coupang to Distribute $1.17B in Vouchers After Data Breach Affects 37.7M Users
South Korea's e-commerce giant Coupang will issue over $1.17 billion in vouchers to compensate users impacted by a massive data leak. The breach exposed personal information—including names, addresses, email accounts, and order histories—of 37.7 million current and former customers. Payment and login credentials remained secure.
Starting January 15, 2026, affected users will receive four vouchers totaling 50,000 won ($36). The package includes credits for Coupang Eats, Rocket Delivery, Allux, and Travel services. Customers can redeem the coupons via the Coupang app as part of the company's effort to rebuild trust after regulatory scrutiny.
Interim CEO Kang Han-seung emphasized accountability, calling the compensation initiative a 'necessary step toward restoring confidence.' Further eligibility details will be released ahead of the 2026 distribution date.
